A very tempting October ahead | OneFootball

Making the most of the international break, we take a look at the matches Deportivo Alavés will face in October

Of the four matches they will play, corresponding to matchdays 8, 9, 10 and 11, two of them will be at Mendizorroza, hosting Atlético de Madrid and Málaga. Their away trips will take them to Balaídos to face Giráldez’s Celta and to Barcelona at the end of the month against the current league leaders.

Undeniable strength

Deportivo Alavés is one of the La Liga teams that usually picks up the most points at home, and the start of this season is proof of that. The support of their fans is clearly felt. Without a doubt, it is one of the babazorros’ greatest strengths, with the team sitting among the top four home sides, behind only the league’s traditional top three.

The babazorros are in luck, as their next match after the break will be at Mendizorroza. Quique Sánchez Flores’ men will host the rojiblancos, who are in excellent form after coming out on top in the Madrid derby.

In recent meetings between the two sides, the blue-and-whites have not made things easy for Simeone’s men, especially in Vitoria. Atlético de Madrid has managed to pick up just one point in their last three visits, with March 2019 marking the date of their last win at Mendizorroza (0-4).

A motivating memory

Balaídos became one of the key hopes for securing survival last season. Alavés left Vigo with a more than deserved reward thanks to an epic comeback, overturning a 1-3 halftime deficit and finishing with a 3-4 win for the babazorro side.

In line with that result and looking ahead to future clashes, the average number of goals per match has been rising in Spanish football (3.09) compared with previous seasons. A fact that adds extra excitement to La Liga matches and means a meeting between Celta and Alavés is anything but just another 90-minute game.

This Alavés side has not lost its hunger despite not getting the best results since mid-September. Reaching 40 points is the first objective, but Quique’s men are not ruling out aiming for something more and becoming a more ambitious team in the long term.
