Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC have officially submitted formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football CAF against Senegalese referee Issa Sy who officiated their CAF Champions League Round of 32 second leg clash against Eagle Noir FC of Burundi on Saturday.

The match played at Cairo International Stadium ended 1-0 in favour of Al Ahly confirming their progression to the group stage with 2-0 aggregate victory.

However controversy erupted in the 16 minute, when Issa Sy issued red card to Slovenian forward Nejc Gradisar after what many described as soft challenge.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Al Ahly managed to hold firm and secure the win through disciplined defensive performance and single decisive goal.

In official statement on Sunday, Al Ahly confirm they have sent formal grievance to CAF regarding the referee’s performance.

The club has filed complaint to CAF against the numerous incorrect decisions by the referee, foremost among them the unjustified red card shown to our striker Nejc Gradisar and the failure to dismiss the opposing player who assaulted Ahmed Ramadan Beckham, Al Ahly said.

The statement also reveals that Al Ahly have attached video evidence to support their appeal and have requested CAF to lift the suspension imposed on their striker, "in the interest of fairness and to uphold the integrity of African competitions".
