Rodri has been out injured since Manchester City beat Brentford 1-nil at the GTech Community Stadium on October 6. Manchester City’s midfield general was substituted in the opening 20 minutes of that match. He has subsequently missed City’s past three matches against Everton, Villarreal and Aston Villa. Rodri has been pictured training ahead of his team’s fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against Swansea. But that isn’t the only good news concerning Manchester City’s most important player.

Rodri has resumed training with the Manchester City squad.

The Spanish international has struggled with injury so far this season. That isn’t a surprise considering that Rodri sustained a devastating ACL injury last season. It was expected that it would take time for him to return to full fitness this season. That is how this season has panned out, so for Rodri.

It is highly unlikely that Rodri would be a part of Manchester City’s squad for his team’s Carabao Cup tie against Swansea. But the fact that he is training is good news for him and his team.

Manchester City’s midfield general is reportedly close to committing his future to the club.

Rodri’s return to training seemingly isn’t the only good news regarding Manchester City’s midfield general. Kieran Smith has reported for TBR Football has reported that Manchester City are confident of signing Rodri to a contract extension before January. Furthermore, Smith reports that City and Rodri plus his representatives have been in talks for over 12 months over a contract extension for the Ballon d’Or winner. It is further reported by Kieran Smith that there is confidence from City and Rodri that a contract extension will be agreed upon before 2026.

It now seems that Rodri is set to commit his future to Manchester City and return to the pitch imminently. That is good news for the club and the Spanish midfielder, the hope is that he can get a run of games in to build his fitness after a frustrating beginning to the new season.
