A win is all that matters today as Celtic head to Rugby Park with the sole aim of picking up the three points that will take us back to the top of the league…

It’s often noted that results that you have to grind out are the ones that win you titles, something we’ve done on many occasions throughout the years, but today I’d like to see us put on a show, not only for the supporters, but to remind the rest of the league that we are by far the best side in the country.

With theRangers sliding down the table and battling to avoid the relegation play-off spot, and the Jambos going top it’s vital that we get a positive result to boost our own confidence whilst dashing the hopes of our Edinburgh rivals in the process. Today we can move nine points ahead of theRangers, a lead that is going to be virtually impossible for their next manager to claw back. They have to sack Russell Martin now surely?

Celtic have the quality to put in the kind of performance we all demand so hopefully today is that day, and we win comfortably with a few goals to show for our efforts. We can’t under-estimate Hearts. Derek McInnes is a better manager than many Celtic fans give him credit for and perhaps Hearts is the perfect place for him to show his managerial quality at its best. Bet there are some fans of theRangers wishing they’d brought him in rather than Russell Martin who looks totally lost now.

As far as Celtic is concerned, the international break came at the right time for once, providing the perfect opportunity for the manager to regroup the players and recharge those batteries as it were, and also a chance to bed in the new signings as we look to rediscover that style we know that we are well capable of producing.

Callum McGregor on Friday pointed out that not as many players were away on international duty as usually happens so the squad had a great opportunity to blend the new arrivals into the Celtic system and hopefully we’ll see the benefit of that today.

The transfer window closing is a good thing, Brendan Rodgers started his explosive media conference on Friday by saying he’s glad it’s closed, and you can see why. Players like Daizen Maeda unsettled, the club messing him, Yang and also Adam Idah around while a Celtic Insider was stabbing the manager in the back via The Sun newspaper. An awful month all round.

Today the Celtic supporters – the team’s 12th man – will make a protest at the start of the game and it is likely to be widely supported. I suggested in an earlier article on the Celtic class of ’96 – that perhaps if the Kilmarnock fans chant ‘Champions League? You’re having a laugh’ then we should join in to re-direct that message to the Celtic Board.

On the park Brendan Rodgers signalled that he is even more determined to succeed as Celtic manager this season, which may be his last at the club, depending on whether or not the Celtic Board and largest shareholder Dermot Desmond demonstrate that they have the ambition to drive the club forward.

Enjoy the game, it’s great to have Celtic back and let’s get the three points, hopefully won by putting on the style against Kilmarnock.
