Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has called for killer instinct following their 4-1 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 on Saturday.

The Soweto giants had a total of 27 shots at goal against the third tier outfit, with 12 on target, but only managed to put the ball in the back of the net on four occasions.

Ouaddou was left unimpressed despite the commanding cup win, bemoaning his team's profligacy in the final third.

“If you look at the data, how many times we shot at goal, the chances that we have created in the last third, and you just have to calculate the average and you will quicky notice that it's not enough. Of course, people can be suprised that the coach is not so happy,” said the Bucs mentor.

"But you just have to look at the data and the numbers don't lie. We need to finish, I said to the players that the only way to respect that kind of teams is if you have to score six, seven, or eight - you have to score six or seven because it's the law of football.

"I'm not going to be too hard with my players because at least we stayed one week here [in Durban], the mission was accomplished - we took three points from AmaZulu, we qualified for the second round. But it's my personality, it's my character to all the time ask more from my players.

The 47-year-old's dissatisfaction stems from the heated Betway Premiership title race, where goal difference could prove the deciding factor in crowning South African champions.

“At such a club with huge ambitions, we must score the goals because all the goals will be very important at the end of this season, but not now in the cup because the most important [thing] in the cup is to qualify for the second round,” Ouaddou added.

"But if I take this subject to the league, you [media] know more than me or like me that at the end of the season we are counting the goals and we have to be aware about that from now. February will be very important, March will be very important, and we cannot afford to lose such opportunities to kill the games.

"There was a lot of positive things again, I'm about the way we controlled the game, the way that we started the game, it's very important. But I'm not 100% satisfied.
