Unfortunately, Leicester City have learned the full extent of the Abdul Fatawu injury. Here is what to know about his progress & potential return date.
Leicester City released an official statement about the recent Abdul Fatawu injury. The statement came after Steve Cooper spoke to the press, confirming the rumours that Fatawu had become injured on international duty.
Representing Ghana on international duty, Fatawu has since returned to the King Power Stadium to be assessed and diagnosed with his current injury. Steve Cooper has revealed how long he expects Abdul Fatawu to be out for, in news which is not great for Leicester City fans.
Abdul Fatawu has an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. He was forced off the pitch in Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola - The same match which his Leicester teammate Jordan Ayew scored in.
Given the injury is fresh, it is difficult to provide an exact timeframe. However, historical data of ACL injuries does not look great.
Steve Cooper expects Abdul Fatawu to be missing for the rest of the season as a minimum.
In his own words, Cooper said: "It’s not good, it’s a serious injury. He’s had an ACL injury which is going to rule him out for the rest of the season. It’s a real blow, first and foremost for him."
Thankfully, Steve Cooper has a very versatile attack. Abdul Fatawu plays on either the left or the right.
On the left, where he is favoured, Jamie Vardy, Jordan Ayew, Stephy Mavididi, Kasy McAteer, Odsonne Edouard or Bobby De Cordova-Reid could replace Adbul Fatawu.
No. Abdul Fatawu is unlikely to play this season, let alone at the weekend against Chelsea.
If Abdul Fatawu is in your Fantasy Football team, it is advised you remove him. Jordan Ayew is a great option, since the Ghanaian is in terrific form. If not Jamie Vardy is Mr Reliable when it comes to fantasy football.
