Abel Ferreira was sent off after Palmeiras beat Fluminense 2-1 on Wednesday at Arena Crefisa Barueri.

The head coach received a straight red from referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima for protesting decisions at the end of the game, then approached the officials to question it. According to Globo.com, the incident took place after the final whistle.

In his post-match comments, Ferreira said he protested because he believed a late throw-in should have gone to Palmeiras. He also referenced being dismissed in the previous match for clapping and questioned where he was allowed to applaud.

He added that he disputed an incident he thought was a goal kick that was changed to a corner, noting that VAR does not intervene in those situations.

Ferreira said everyone can make mistakes and that the referee was strict. He suggested the fourth official might have taken offence over the throw-in and said it was the fourth official who had him sent off.
