Abel Ferreira stands alone as Palmeiras' most decorated coach after lifting the Campeonato Paulista on Sunday, a 2-1 win over Novorizontino taking him to 11 trophies in charge.

According to Globo.com, the triumph moved him clear of Oswaldo Brandão, with whom he had shared the benchmark at 10 titles going into this year.

Since arriving in 2020, Abel has piled up silverware over more than five years, gradually overtaking club greats Vanderlei Luxemburgo and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

He had never completed a full campaign without a title until 2025, when Palmeiras finished runners-up in the Paulista, the Brasileiro and the Libertadores. They lost the state title to Corinthians, and were second to Flamengo in the Brasileiro and the Libertadores.

The 2026 state crown ends a two-year wait without silverware, their previous title had been the 2024 Paulista.

In December last year he renewed his deal until December 2027, with his family’s wish to remain in Brazil and a refreshed squad shaped to his approach among the factors.

His honours include the Libertadores in 2020 and 2021, the Copa do Brasil in 2020, the Recopa Sudamericana in 2022 and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2023. He also lifted the Brasileiro in 2022 and 2023, plus the Paulista in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026.
