Abel Ferreira to lead Palmeiras in Copa do Brasil despite Brasileirão ban | OneFootball

Abel Ferreira will be on the touchline for Palmeiras against Jacuipense-BA on Thursday at Allianz Parque in the Copa do Brasil, despite an STJD suspension.

The ban applies only to the Campeonato Brasileiro. Although both competitions are organised by the CBF, suspensions are served per tournament, according to Nosso Palestra.

Ferreira received a seven-match ban after red cards in league games against Fluminense and São Paulo, charged under Article 258 of the CBJD for conduct contrary to sporting ethics. An initial eight-game penalty was reduced to seven by the STJD Pleno.

He has already served four matches, two automatic following the dismissals and two more against Corinthians and Athletico-PR, leaving three league fixtures still to serve.

Last week he directed Palmeiras to a 2-1 win over Sporting Cristal-PER in the Libertadores, and on that occasion he declined to discuss the case, keeping his views private.
