Palmeiras have completed their final session before hosting LDU in the CONMEBOL Libertadores quarter-final first leg at Nubank Parque on Wednesday at 19:00, with the return on 16 in Quito.

According to Nosso Palestra, Abel Ferreira’s staff led muscle activation in the performance centre before tactical work on build-up play, marking and positioning on the pitch.

Set-piece routines, attacking and defensive, were sharpened to close preparations for a tie that could prove pivotal for the Alviverde.

After training, left-back Piquerez underlined the importance of the contest and said the team should draw on the last-16 win over Cerro Porteño, when qualification was settled away. He also recalled that LDU were knocked out by Palmeiras in last year’s semi-final.

He accepted that playing at altitude in Quito will be demanding and stressed the need to build a strong first-leg result at home.

Piquerez has made 248 appearances for Palmeiras, the second most among the current squad, behind captain Gustavo Gómez on 422.

Palmeiras arrive in the last eight with a landmark record in the tournament, the only club to reach the knockouts in the past 10 editions. This is their 14th quarter-final, the most among Brazilian sides, trailing only Boca Juniors on 16 and River Plate on 19 overall.
