Abel will miss Palmeiras’ Libertadores semi-final opener against Fluminense after being sent off against LDU.

According to Globo.com, the coach was dismissed in the second half on Wednesday in Ecuador and cannot take his place on the bench.

He reacted angrily when a foul on Andreas Pereira was not awarded at 20 minutes of the second half, and referee Wilmar Roldán showed a red card.

In normal time, Palmeiras went ahead twice, but LDU turned it around with two goals after 44 minutes. The 3-2 result took the tie to penalties.

In the shootout, Carlos Miguel denied LDU twice and was the hero of Palmeiras’ progress. Vitor Roque, Mauricio, Piquerez and Felipe Anderson converted, while Lucas Evangelista did not.

The semi-finals will be played in the weeks of 14 and 22 October, with the first leg at the Maracanã and the return at Nubank Parque.
