According to L'Équipe, Abner Vinicius is out with an adductor issue for OL’s Europa League trip to Young Boys on Thursday, 18:45, while Corentin Tolisso is a doubt.
Paulo Fonseca has called up four specialist defenders for Bern. Maitland-Niles, Mata, Kluivert and Tagliafico were expected to start, with Tanner Tessmann or Tiago Gonçalves on standby.
Moussa Niakhaté is due back from the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, and the back line is stretched. Abner came off late in the 2-1 win over Brest and could return at Metz next Sunday.
In midfield, Fonseca said Tolisso is not in peak condition and he has yet to decide whether to risk him. The captain trained on Wednesday, but the synthetic surface may count against a start. Lyon trained in Bern to acclimatise rather than at Décines.
The turf is also shaping plans for Orel Mangala, who will not start. Fonseca feels it is time he played more after recent progress, but he will not give him a first start on synthetic turf. On a normal pitch, he would have started.
Lyon are also without the not registered Rachid Ghezzal, Hans Hateboer, Noah Nartey and Endrick, plus long-term absentees Ernest Nuamah and Malick Fofana. Fonseca called the tie very important and said his side should have the possibility to win. Lyon have won six in a row and arrive leading the 36 Europa League participants.
