Abraham fires Villa into Carabao Cup fourth round | OneFootball

Tammy Abraham gave Unai Emery plenty to think about as his double helped Aston Villa beat Coventry City 3-1 and reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Abraham  opened the scoring after just seven minutes. The striker had scored only once in his previous 16 appearances, but looked sharp as he took his chance to impress.

Victor Torp briefly brought Coventry level with a superb 25-yard free-kick, but Villa restored their lead before half-time when Ross Barkley headed home an unmarked corner.

Abraham then struck again in the 59th minute, turning in John McGinn’s corner to give Villa a comfortable advantage.

The result provides a welcome boost for Emery’s side after losing three of their opening four Premier League games. Abraham’s performance was particularly timely following the £65m arrival of Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, which had cast further doubt over his future at Villa.

For Coventry, it was another miserable night. The Sky Blues have now lost five of their opening six matches and conceded 15 goals in all competitions.
