The 23-year-old has returned to Fratton Park after an indifferent period with the Premier League newcomers

Abu Kamara has already broken his silence after a long-awaited return to Portsmouth was finalised on Monday, with the winger departing Premier League newcomers, Hull City, in the process.

Pompey are entering their third Championship season under the management of John Mousinho, and will be hoping to progress further up the table after ending the 2025/26 campaign in 18th place, four places and seven points ahead of the relegation zone.

A lack of creative spark and clinical finishing proved to be a major achilles heel for the South Coast club last term, and Mousinho has attempted to rectify such shortcomings already in the transfer window, whilst Kamara will hope to replicate the form he showed at Fratton Park during the club's 2023/24 League One-winning season.

And, as if it wasn't clear enough by reactions from both supporters and the London-born winger on social media after the transfer was officially announced, Pompey fans got to hear even more from the attacker on social media.

Kamara, of course, given his exploits during the Blues' promotion-winning season of two years ago, needs no introduction to the Fratton Park crowd, having scored eight goals and posted a further 10 assists in 46 league encounters for the club on loan from Norwich City.

It was such form which persuaded former Hull boss, Tim Walter, to invest potentially up to £4.5m in the former England youth international on Deadline Day in the summer window of 2023/24, but it hasn't exactly gone to plan at the MKM Stadium for the winger.

That said, his five goals during the 2024/25 season were somewhat pivotal in helping Hull avoid relegation to League One, before featuring 12 times in La Liga with Getafe last term as the Tigers won the Championship play-off final under Sergej Jakirovic.

It has been reported that Kamara's return to Hampshire has cost £2.5m on a four-year contract, and he has already sent a message to the Pompey faithful.

"Hello Pompey fans. I heard you wanted me to come home, so here I am," said the attacker.

"Buzzing to be back (and) I can't wait to see you at Fratton Park," he added.

As is the case when any deal is announced, there have been a strong mix of opinions from Portsmouth supporters on social media.

"Glad this one is over, let’s hope he smashes it for the money paid out. Let’s keep expectations real, he performed in lg1 two years ago and done nothing since. Fingers crossed he doesn’t end up a Chaplin," was one verdict, given Conor Chaplin's struggles on loan from Ipswich Town last season with his boyhood club.

Another Pompey fan was of the complete opposite stance, though, stating: We've had some loans over the years that we wanted signed but this guy genuinely is the most coveted of the lot we had. If we picked any of the loans, this was it. Have that extra slice today lads, its a beautiful day."

Even during his spell at Norwich, Kamara only made two Championship appearances before moving to Hull, where circumstances meant he was in and out of the side under all of Walter, Ruben Selles and Jakirovic despite the fee the club parted with to secure his services.

He did suffer a minor injury setback in pre-season for the Tigers, whilst also scoring against Kasimpasa on July 26th, meaning that he will hope to use that as a springboard that can also be Pompey's gain if he remains fully fit and confident.
