AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta waxed lyrical about Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez.

Speaking to Sky Calcio via FCInter1908, the former Italian defender praised the Nerazzurri stalwart after another match-winning performance.

Despite enduring a rough start to the season, Lautaro Martinez has gone from strength to strength.

Indeed, the 28-year-old center-forward has scored 11 Serie A goals this season, moving three clear of second-placed Christian Pulisic.

Furthermore, the Argentine superstar remains the only player in Italy’s top flight to have hit double digits so far.

Lautaro netted an early winner in Inter’s narrow 1-0 victory at Udinese last weekend, keeping his team at the top of the table.

However, the former Racing Club striker has struggled in big games, drawing a blank against all Milan, Napoli, and Juventus.

That’s perhaps the only downside as the Inter talisman to be a point of difference.

First of all, Costacurta hailed Inter’s attacking style under Cristian Chivu.

“Inter attack straight away,” he said, reflecting on the Nerazzurri’s jaw-dropping 44-goal tally in Serie A this term.

Then, he credited Lautaro for turning Inter’s frontline into a force to be reckoned with.

“They’re driven by this striker [Lautaro], who presses, runs, battles, scores goals…

“Lautaro is truly an incredible captain, in my opinion.

“It would have been really great to play with him because of the way he shows his attachment to the team’s fortunes.

“This is an unbelievable movement – the other player can’t intervene because he puts his body between him and the ball, sticks out his leg.”

Finally, Costacurta delivered his verdict on Inter’s tendency to start matches on the front foot.

“It doesn’t surprise me because it’s clearly a strategy,” he added.

“They want to grab their opponents by the throat and immediately make them understand that they want to win.”
