According to L'Équipe, Achraf Hakimi will rejoin group training this week and be in Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for the Champions League final against Arsenal on 30 May. Focus has lately been on Ousmane Dembélé’s right-calf issue.
Hakimi suffered a thigh lesion late in the semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich on 28 April, a 5-4 game, and has been out a little over three weeks.
Barring setback, he will push to start as PSG chase a second straight title. He looked relaxed and showed no limp at Stade Jean-Bouin on Sunday around the Paris FC match, 1-2.
This comeback has been smoother than autumn, when a severe left-ankle sprain against Bayern on 4 November, 1-2, put the Africa Cup of Nations in doubt. He avoided surgery and returned for Morocco’s third game on 29 December against Zambia, 3-0.
This time rehab stayed at PSG’s Poissy base, despite an early scare and his swift ruling out of the second leg in Bavaria. The plan has been a gentle reintroduction to limit relapse risk.
Morocco, who face Brazil overnight on 13-14 June, are tracking their captain’s progress ahead of Budapest.
Hakimi’s return could squeeze Warren Zaïre-Emery. With Fabian Ruiz back in midfield and Hakimi could do likewise at right-back, PSG’s most-used player this season may start on the bench. He might not yet have the engine to go the distance.
