LIBERIA, Costa Rica – AD Guanacasteca and Managua FC tied 1-1 in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño in Liberia, Costa Rica.

Joaquín Hernández struck inside the box in the 5’ to force a save from Managua goalkeeper Alyer López.

Ronald Palacio tried to open the scoring in the 12’ for the visitors but Guanacasteca goalkeeper Antonny Monreal responded for the home side.

José Mora opened the scoring in the 30' after a drive through the right flank culminating with a right-footed finish inside the penalty area.

Ismael Mendieta tied the match in the 41' with a strike in front of goal, connecting with a pass from the right side by Maykel Reyes who pulled out wide on the buildup.

Johan Venegas tried to extend the lead for the hosts off a free kick in the 68’ but was blocked by the wall.

Abner Acuña struck from the edge of the box in the 84’ but his shot was blocked by Monreal.

Pedro Leal had the last look on goal in the 90'+2 with a header in the box but López collected the ball as the encounter ended in a stalemate.

Both clubs gained a point from the draw but were unable to move out of the bottom of Group D. Managua FC ends its 2024 campaign with a 1-1-2 record, while AD Guanacasteca will host another Nicaraguan side, Real Estelí FC, on Thursday, August 29, in Liberia, Costa Rica.
