Leeds United tabled two offers for Mykhailo Mudryk before the winger joined Tottenham on a deal containing a £75m option to buy.

According to BBC Sport, Leeds also believed Mudryk wanted the move, which underpinned their confidence, but they were ultimately blindsided by Chelsea’s talks with Spurs.

Mudryk became available this summer after his suspension was lifted, having last played for Chelsea in November 2024. Signed by Chelsea for £90m, he failed a drugs test and was banned thereafter.

Leeds’ proposals were structured as a loan with a fee, full wage coverage and penalties if he did not play regularly. The main obstacle was Chelsea, who wanted guaranteed minutes for any loanee and were focused on trimming their squad.

Spurs secured him, reuniting Roberto De Zerbi with his former Shakhtar winger, and the £75m clause is viewed as unlikely to be triggered.

Leeds eventually added in attack late in the window, signing Jean-Matteo Bahoya on loan with an obligation to buy worth £26m, and he has been billed as the Bundesliga’s quickest-ever player.
