A key fixture in Olympique de Marseille’s midfield may be on his way out sooner than many had hoped.

Adrien Rabiot (30) guided them to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 this past season, ensuring them a place in the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time since 2022-23.

Following his team’s 4-2 victory over Stade Rennais, the 2022 World Cup runner-up said: “The Champions League at the Vélodrome? It’s going to be great. But, I personally do not want to get ahead of myself in terms of what is going to happen next season. We’ll have a moment to sit with the president, with Medhi (Benatia), to discuss all this.”

Rabiot netted a brace in their final match on Saturday, giving him nine altogether, his highest tally ever in a single European top-flight campaign.

The Frenchman joined OM from Juventus on a free transfer in September 2024. Upon his arrival, it was reported that there was a gentleman’s agreement with the French side that the club would accept a €10m release clause for the former five-time Ligue 1 winner at Paris Saint-Germain.

In their recent Ligue 1 campaign, Rabiot played a pivotal part in Robert De Zerbi’s setup, playing in an increasing attacking role from what we’ve seen in the past, with the Frenchman collecting four assists for his hard work.

The futures of Rabiot and the club’s leading goalscorer this past season, Mason Greenwood, are in question heading into the summer transfer window.

Marseille, for their part, appear keen to bring Rabiot back to the Vélodrome next season. RMC reports that they’d be willing to raise his salary as part of a new contract.
