With the World Cup in North America just around the corner, the DFB squad have plenty of plans for the tournament, and former Bayern player Bastian Schweinsteiger has now given national coach Julian Nagelsmann some advice
The fact that Schweinsteiger himself has plenty of tournament experience is nothing new. The 2014 World Cup winner has numerous international caps under his belt and has often been an important part of the German selection at major events
Schweinsteiger now works as a pundit, including at international matches
He told the Rheinische Post with regard to the tournament: „Team unity is very important. We had a strong framework of Bayern players in 2014. It was there, it was solid and it was so strong that we pulled the other players in the squad along with us.“ From Schweinsteiger’s point of view, it could work the same way this time: „That could be the case again in the team now thanks to the Bayern axis.“
And a number of Bayern players have indeed been nominated: Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala and Lennart Karl are all in the squad, while Jonas Urbig has joined the squad as training goalkeeper

Numerous Bayern players were on the pitch in the final of the 2014 title, which helped the team immensely to maintain their rhythm. The ex-professional believes the German team has a good basis for the current tournament
But Schweinsteiger also sees a problem: the lack of consistency. His analysis: „The difference to the other top nations and also to our 2014 team is the current lack of consistency and the occasional drop in performance.“
