Adzic: ‘Unforgettable’ winner against Juventus exactly one year on from first goal | OneFootball

Sassuolo’s Vasilije Adzic admits scoring with the last kick to beat his parent club Juventus, a year to the day since his first goal for them, was ‘unforgettable.’

The game was 2-2 going into the final minute, as Juve had twice clawed their way back into it with Edon Zhegrova strikes, after Sebastiano Esposito and then Kieron Bowie had put the Neroverdi ahead.

Adzic was sent clear by Darryl Bakola and kept his cool one-on-one with Douglas Luiz to bend the finish into the net for a 3-2 victory.

He refused to celebrate out of respect against the club that still owns him, but it was an extraordinary coincidence.

Adzic astounded after Sassuolo victory

“It’s so strange, I missed two chances close to the goal, but I couldn’t miss the third, because finishing is meant to be one of my strengths,” 20-year-old Adzic told DAZN Italia.

“It’s an unforgettable sensation, because on this day last year I scored my first goal for Juventus, and this time I scored it against my Juve. I’m happy for the team and the extraordinary performance of Sassuolo.”

That goal in September 2025 was also a late winner, sealing the 4-3 against Inter in the Derby d’Italia at the 91st minute.

He had already found the net twice for Sassuolo since the loan move with option to buy, in the Coppa Italia against Cesena and during a 2-2 draw with Bologna last week, so clearly he is settling in well.

“I arrived a month ago and the coach has put a lot of faith in me, which is the most important thing for a young player. When you join a team with many young players, it does help you feel more involved, and we want to keep growing day after day.”

It was put to Adzic that during the current injury crisis, Juventus could really do with a player of his characteristics right now.

“I cannot answer that, I’m sorry,” he smiled. “I have joined a team that has many young players and wants to grow, it’s important for a player of my age to get consistent time on the field.”

That may well still happen, as the Bianconeri did keep a buy-back option on Adzic.
