AFA backs Gianni Infantino after FIFA withdraws Forward Enterprise plan | OneFootball

The Argentine Football Association, AFA, has backed Gianni Infantino after FIFA withdrew the FIFA Forward Enterprise project. The body is led by Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia.

In a statement on Friday, the federation welcomed the U-turn, arguing the proposal created more uncertainty than certainty. It added that Infantino and his team had acknowledged mistakes and apologised to all 211 member associations, which it framed as institutional responsibility and respect for FIFA’s governance. The statement also described his tenure as a structural shift towards a more open and transparent organisation with greater member participation, and reaffirmed support ahead of the forthcoming Congress.

FFE envisaged private investment in the exploitation of commercial rights for future World Cups. The idea faced firm opposition from UEFA and the Asian Football Confederation, AFC.

National associations have since set out their positions. Argentina has aligned itself with other associations, including the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
