Indio Solari, former leader of Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, died on Friday morning aged 77 after more than a decade living with Parkinson’s disease.
The Argentine Football Association said in a statement that news of his death resonates beyond music, noting that his work accompanied millions for decades and that football became one of its most singular stages.
From the most modest pitches to the country’s most emblematic stadiums, his songs moved beyond gigs and records to become part of terrace identity.
Few artists forged such a deep connection with football, with melodies, lines and refrains from his pen adopted by fans of every colour.
The bond was not born of strategy or design, it grew naturally over decades as people made his songs their own on the terraces, where they gained a unique emotional force.
Argentine football now farewells an irreplaceable figure of national culture. His lyrics, melodies and unmistakable presence will continue to echo each weekend in stadiums, present whenever a stand breaks into song.
