The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations entrants have been confirmed following the conclusion of qualification this week.
All 24 teams have now booked their place at the finals, with the the biennial African football tournament to take place between December 21st 2025 and January 18th 2026.
Morocco will host the tournament and should start among the favourites for success, alongside the likes of holders Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Senegal.
Ghana were arguably the biggest casualties of qualification as the Black Stars failed to win any of their six games. The four-time winners will not feature when the action gets underway next year, meaning stars such as West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo will be watching from home.
Morocco (hosts), Burkina Faso, Egypt, Algeria, Angola, Congo DR, Cameroon, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Comoros, Gabon, Nigeria, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Uganda, Botswana, Benin, Sudan, Tanzania, Mozambique.
Alongside Ghana’s big names in Kudus and Semenyo, Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy will also play no part after Guinea’s failure to qualify. Familiar faces to Premier League fans also missing next year will be Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh (Gambia) and Everton striker Beto (Guinea-Bissau).
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be hosted between December 21st 2025 and January 18th 2026, across six different cities in Morocco. Morocco took over hosting from Guinea, who were removed from the position due to inadequate infrastructure and facilities.
Originally scheduled for this summer, the tournament was moved after clashing with FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup.
