AFCON Qualifiers: FC Bayern duo Saibari and Ndiaye return to help their national teams to away wins | OneFootball

FC Bayern duo Ismael Saibari and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye were in winning sides as the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign continued on Tuesday.

Senegal took their first three points under their new coach Patrick Vieira with a hard-fought win over Ethiopia. Ibrahim Mbaye’s solitary strike made the difference in a game with few chances at either end. The assist came from his clubmate and former FC Bayern striker Nicolas Jackson, who scored in his previous two games for club and country.

While Jackson’s loan in Bavaria ended with him joining Aston Villa on a permanent transfer, FC Bayern permanently signed Ndiaye from Gambino Stars with the future in mind. The 18-year-old midfielder has only featured as a late substitute in the cup against Osnabrück, but he played the last half-hour in Bahir Dar for his third international cap.

Meanwhile, Morocco recorded their second 2-0 win of the qualifying campaign with goals from Brahim Diaz and Azzedine Ounahi to beat Lesotho in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Back from suspension, Saibari played 85 minutes for the Atlas Lions.

FC Bayern’s new star missed the game against Gabon as he was fined by CAF for his involvement in the towel drama during the 2025 AFCON final. Saibari scored his first goal for the Rekordmeister when they beat Union Berlin 7-0 in the last game before the international break.

Elsewhere, four Bundesliga players featured for Algeria in their 2-2 draw against Burundi. Eintracht Frankfurt’s midfielder Farès Chaïbi scored an own-goal in the fifth minute before the visitors came from two-goal down to maintain their unbeaten start to the qualifying campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza scored when Algeria beat Zambia 3-1 in the opening matchday. Borussia Dortmund defender Ramy Bensebaini is the new captain of the side, while Schalke’s Adil Aouchiche came off the bench on Tuesday to make his competitive debut.
