The 4th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) took place in Rwanda in 2016.

Sixteen nations competed in the tournament: Morocco, Tunisia, Guinea, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, DR Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Angola.

Double delight for DR Congo

DR Congo became the first African nation to win two African Nations Championship (CHAN) titles.

In the group stage, they finished second behind Cameroon, collecting 6 points with victories over Ethiopia (3-0) and Angola (4-2), despite a 1-3 loss to Cameroon.

In the quarterfinals, DR Congo edged Rwanda 2-1 after extra time. In the semifinals, they prevailed in a dramatic penalty shootout against Guinea, winning 5-4 after a 1-1 draw. In the final, they made light work of Mali, cruising to a 3-0 victory.
