After 11 years with FC Bayern: Coach moves to a league rival | OneFootball

After eleven years with FC Bayern, Holger Seitz is embarking on a new chapter. The 51-year-old is taking over as head coach at SpVgg Unterhaching, thus remaining in the Bavarian Regional League. For the longtime Bayern coach, this is his first coaching job outside the record-holding champions since his move to the campus.

Seitz spent over a decade at FC Bayern in various roles. Following his departure from the amateur team at the end of last season, it is now clear what the future holds for the 51-year-old. Unterhaching has signed Seitz as its new head coach.

At FC Bayern, Seitz played a key role in developing young players. He stood on the sidelines as head coach of the second team for a total of 189 matches. His focus was not only on on-field results but, in particular, on introducing talented players to men’s soccer.

Even in his final season, Seitz repeatedly had to work with a significantly reshuffled roster. Numerous young players were promoted to the team, while other talents took the next step and were loaned out or transferred permanently to other clubs.

A total of 19 players from the club’s own youth system made their Regionalliga debuts under Seitz during the 2025–26 season. Nearly half of the total playing time was accounted for by players who were 19 years old or younger.

His work was duly recognized by FC Bayern. Jochen Sauer, Director of Youth Development, said upon his departure: “During his eleven years with FC Bayern’s youth program, Holger contributed to the Campus’s success story. I’d like to thank him once again for that.”

A Quick Reunion

What’s particularly interesting: Seitz won’t have to wait long to face his former employer again. As early as October 9, the S-Bahn derby between Unterhaching and Bayern’s amateur team will take place in the Bavarian Regional League. The match will be held at Grünwalder Stadium—on Seitz’s birthday, of all days.

For the new Unterhaching coach, this is a special situation. “It’s a curious twist of fate that my very first match at the stadium I’m most emotionally attached to in my career so far is taking place on my birthday of all days,” said Seitz.

Despite the move, the 51-year-old looks back on his time with the record champions with great gratitude. “I had a unique time at FC Bayern and am deeply grateful to the club,” Seitz emphasized. At the same time, his focus is now entirely on his new role: “I’m now looking forward to this great challenge in Unterhaching and to working with the team.”

Seitz thus remains in Bavarian soccer, but is turning a new chapter after eleven years at the FC Bayern Campus. At Unterhaching, the experienced youth coach now faces the task—for the first time—of building up another team for the long term and further developing it athletically.
