Newcastle United have won the FA Youth Cup twice before.

Bobby Moncur amongst the NUFC players who won the competition in 1962.

Whilst Paul Gascoigne the key figure when Newcastle United last won the FA Youth Cup in 1985.

Four decades is a long time, maybe this generation of young NUFC stars can change that.

After a decade and a half of Mike Ashley failing to all proper investment throughout the club, including/especially with the Academy. These new/current Newcastle United owners putting a lot of focus on the future of the club, as well as the present, with major investment in facilities, coaching and recruitment.

The green shoots of hope for the future are now increasingly showing, with currently the Newcastle United Under 18s now only having Man City ahead of them in the Northern section of the league.

Hopefully they can continue that league form and also make a major attempt at winning the FA Youth Cup after so many decades of failure.

Newcastle United official announcement – 17 November 2025:

‘Newcastle United Under-18s have been handed a home tie against Portsmouth in the third round of this season’s FA Youth Cup.

The young Magpies have won the competition twice in their history after tasting success in 1962 before a side including Geordie midfielder Paul Gascoigne, lifted the cup in 1985.

Newcastle reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious youth tournament in 2016/17 but their impressive run was ended by Tottenham Hotspur in a 5-3 defeat at St. James’ Park while a Magpies side involving Elliot Anderson reached the last-eight stage four years later before losing out to eventual winners Aston Villa.

With a number of second round ties still to be played, third round ties are scheduled to be completed by Saturday, 13th December.
