‘After all the suffering, after falling and getting back up…’: Gavi’s emotional message after World Cup selection | OneFootball

Barcelona midfielder Gavi will be heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being included by Luis de la Fuente in Spain’s final 26-man squad for the tournament.

The news brought an emotional reaction from the young midfielder at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

His Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal was present during the announcement and shared the special moment as Gavi reacted emotionally to receiving the World Cup call-up.

Gavi’s sentimental message

Several hours after learning the news, Gavi took to social media to share his excitement and reflect on the difficult journey that led him back to this stage.

The midfielder spoke openly about overcoming injuries and difficult moments over the last few years while also making his ambitions for the tournament clear.

“A dream come true, being able to play in my second World Cup representing my country!”, Gavi started.

“But this one will feel different after all the suffering, after falling and getting back up twice in three years, but I assure you that I will give everything I have to bring the World Cup home.

“It is a pride and an honour to be on this list of 26, let’s make you all just as proud!”

The message was shared alongside two images: one from his childhood wearing the Spain shirt and another from his previous World Cup experience at Qatar 2022.

Strong Barcelona representation

Gavi will be one of eight Spanish Barcelona players included in the World Cup squad, along with Pedri, Lamine, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, and Joan Garcia.

Fermin Lopez would also have been a part of the squad if not for the injury he suffered earlier this month, which has sidelined him for two months.
