Sky Germany – as relayed by transfermarkt.de reports that former Kaiserslautern standout Daisuke Yokota will be returning to German football after all. The Japanese midfielder missed out on a chance to play in the Bundesliga with FC St. Pauli, but will return to the 2. Bundesliga with Hannover 96. Yokota appears headed to the German second division on loan.

Should Yokota’s move to Hannover materialize, he will face his former 2. Bundesliga club on the first matchday of the 2025/26 campaign this weekend. The 25-year-old enjoyed a fine season with Lautern last year, scoring four goals and registering three assists in 25 appearances for the Pfälzer Red Devils.

Prior to moving to his current Belgian club, KAA Gent, Yokota came of age in German academies. After moving to Germany at the age of 18, the Itabashi-native worked on the footballing campuses of FSV Frankfurt and Carl Zeiss Jena.

Sky reports that Hannover are in “advanced talks” to finalize the deal. Yokota’s transfer to St. Pauli reportedly fell through because Gent wasn’t satisfied with a €2.5m purchase offer for their player.
