Dan Neil joined Ipswich Town on Tuesday on loan to the end of the season, when his Sunderland contract expires. Sunderland Echo notes that he has therefore played his final game for the club.

In a farewell message, Neil thanked coaches, team-mates, staff and fans, said he was proud to help take the club back to the Premier League, and called captaining Sunderland a boyhood dream. He described himself as a lifelong supporter and said he is excited for what comes next.

Dennis Cirkin’s future remains unresolved despite increased minutes, with an extension in the North East yet to be agreed. He is currently understudy to Reinildo Mandava and it remains to be seen whether that status influences his decision.

Goalkeeper Simon Moore is third choice for Regis Le Bris and could move on when the campaign ends. He remains a popular figure in the dressing room.

Lutsharel Geertruida is on loan, and Sunderland hold an option to buy. A decision will follow in due course, with the Dutchman’s versatility viewed as useful.

Young midfielder Harrison Jones is currently contracted to 2026, with the club holding a further one-year option. A loan could aid his development, and the option may be considered to avoid losing him for nothing.

Bertrand Traore was finding rhythm before heading to the African Cup of Nations and returning injured. As the squad’s only out-and-out right winger at present, an extra year would not be a surprise.
