After early exit in 2026, Corinthians record worst Copinha run since 2013

Corinthians bid farewell to the Copinha 2026 last Tuesday (13th), after being defeated by Guarani 2-1. With the elimination still in the second phase, Timãozinho recorded its worst performance in the tournament since the 2013 edition.

On that occasion, the club from Parque São Jorge also advanced in its group, scoring seven points and surpassing União São João, XV de Piracicaba, and Americano, from Maranhão. It is worth noting that, at the time, only the first place in each group guaranteed a spot in the next phase. In the knockout stage, Corinthians was eliminated by Bahia, after a 1-0 defeat.

Since then, the alvinegro's history in the competition has been marked by standout campaigns, with titles in 2015, 2017, and 2024, in addition to three runner-up finishes. Until now, the most negative performance occurred in 2022, when Timãozinho fell in the third phase, against Resende, from Rio de Janeiro.

The participation in 2026, however, fell short of expectations. From the debut, the team encountered difficulties, securing victories against Trindade, from Goiás, and XV de Jaú, as well as a goalless draw with Luverdense, from Mato Grosso. Despite the results, Corinthians did not present consistent performances throughout the competition. Against Guarani, once again, the performance was below par, culminating in the elimination.

With the end of the journey in Copinha, Corinthians is expected to make adjustments to its Under-20 team, looking ahead to the continuation of the season. The team will face the Brazilian Championship of the category, scheduled to start in February, and the Paulista Championship, set to begin in March.
