After Hoeneß’s Praise: Eberl Talks About His Future at Bayern | OneFootball

It looks like a contract extension is on the horizon. After Uli Hoeneß recently put the odds of a new contract for Max Eberl at “100 percent,” FC Bayern’s sporting director has now commented for the first time on the honorary president’s remarks—and appeared visibly pleased.

As recently as the end of May, Hoeneß had expressed doubts about Eberl’s future in SPIEGEL and estimated his chances of a contract extension at only “60 to 40.” A few weeks later, the picture has completely changed. During the friendly match against FC Rottach-Egern , the 74-year-old even spoke of a “100 percent” probability.

During FC Bayern’s Asian tour in South Korea, Eberl responded for the first time to the public show of support. “I was very pleased by the comments on Thursday—I make no secret of that. People prefer to hear praise rather than criticism,” the 52-year-old explained during a press conference on Jeju.

Despite the positive signals, Eberl made it clear that he remains focused on his day-to-day work. “I’m trying to do the job for Bayern Munich and convince the people who make these decisions that I’m not such a bad choice. In the end, the supervisory board will decide.”

At the same time, the sporting director left no doubt that he still sees his future with the record champions: “If they want to continue, then I’m ready to talk.”

Early transfers impress the Bayern bosses

It’s no coincidence that Eberl’s standing within the club has risen significantly recently. Together with sporting director Christoph Freund, he succeeded in securing the desired signings of Vincent Kompany early on.

With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, Munich signed two players who were top priorities internally. In addition, the decision-making bodies led by Hoeneß and President Herbert Hainer were involved in the planning at an early stage. According to Hoeneß, FC Bayern is currently experiencing what he calls a “perfect transfer window.”

However, Eberl’s work on the transfer market is not quite finished yet. If possible, João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, Bryan Zaragoza, and Armindo Sieb are expected to leave the club by the end of the transfer window. If he succeeds in this task as well, the chances of a contract extension will be virtually impossible to overlook.
