Leeds United have stepped back from a move for Hidemasa Morita, while their pursuit of Southampton midfielder Shea Charles remains parked at their current valuation.
On 21 July, A Bola reported that Leeds held direct talks with Morita, 31, and offered a two-year deal with an option for a third after the midfielder left Sporting at the end of his contract to pursue the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Leeds are in a stand-off over Charles, the 22-year-old Northern Ireland international. Southampton want a package around £30million after rejecting up to three bids, and Fulham have tabled a £24million proposal. Leeds’ offer remains on the table, but they are not increasing it.
After assessing finances and squad fit, Leeds chose to withdraw from Morita and redirect resources. Daniel Farke’s side continue to weigh alternative midfield options alongside Charles.
A pattern is emerging under 49ers Enterprises, financial discipline over panic. The focus now is to pivot quickly to a midfielder who fits both tactical requirements and budget before the season begins.
