After a two-year absence from football, the Cameroonian centre-back may return to the French second division, but this could certainly be a great opportunity for the player to get back in the game and prove himself.

The 27-year-old Onguéné started his career at one of the most prominent clubs currently in Europe, winning numerous trophies, including six domestic league titles, and has gained experience in European competitions having played in the UEFA Champions League on more than one occasion. Red Star FC will have a great opportunity to utilise the player's services in a big way with such a wealth of experience.

Ready to return to action

After months of rigorous rehabilitation, Jérôme Onguéné stands ready to reclaim his place on the pitch. The Cameroonian defender will undergo medical assessments with Red Star Belgrade in the coming days, as the Serbian giants evaluate his fitness before making a final decision.

The 32-year-old center-back, valued at €250k (Transfermarkt), isn't short of suitors. Austrian club SCR Altach has also registered concrete interest, while Africa Foot exclusively revealed in January that Switzerland and Bulgaria had previously tabled offers for the "Indomitable Lion."

Having represented Cameroon at AFCON 2022, Onguéné's potential return could mark an inspiring new chapter for the experienced defender. All eyes now turn to Belgrade - will he earn his redemption at the Rajko Mitić Stadium, or will Europe's quieter leagues provide his next challenge?
