Aguerd’s proposed return to Real Sociedad has collapsed at the last minute, AS reports.
Real Sociedad and Marseille had agreed a loan with an option to buy to bring the Moroccan centre-back back to San Sebastián, where he spent 2024-25 on loan. The club had considered other defensive options, such as the Czech Ladislav Krejci, before opting for the 30-year-old.
The move faltered after an initial medical in Marseille did not fully convince, and after Aguerd held a conversation with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.
The player believed he was ready to play following pubic surgery in March, which kept him out of the 2026 World Cup. His return was envisaged as gradual, with his minutes managed in the opening matches.
However the American coach indicated he needed him available from the start, and Real Sociedad’s medical staff were not entirely convinced. After this turn in talks, a return for Aguerd now appears off and the club must seek an urgent alternative in the remaining days of the window.
