Lennart Karl is a source of amazement at FC Bayern and now also of the highest praise from the world-class echelons. Harry Kane, one of the best strikers of our time, has given the 17-year-old attacking jewel an impressive seal of approval ahead of the Champions League clash at Arsenal FC. At a time when Munich are having to make changes due to the suspension of Luis Díaz, the youngster’s importance is growing noticeably.

Kane left no doubt as to how much he believes in Karl, with the superstar declaring the day before the Emirates Stadium clash: „I think he’s ready. He’s shown he’s ready every moment he’s played for us this season. I don’t think age is that important.“

The words carry weight, because Kane also knows that someone from the offense has to replace Díaz – and Karl has impressively recommended himself with his goal and assist in the 6-2 win over Freiburg.

„Difficult to man-mark him“

Kane continued to rave about Karl’s abilities, which make him a special player despite his age: „You can see the confidence he has. You can see the ability he has to play under pressure, in tight spaces. He’s very quick and agile, so it’s hard to man-mark him. He’s a really good player, we’re really happy with what he does.“

The England international also emphasizes how much Karl benefits from his environment – both from his experienced team-mates and from coach Vincent Kompany: „He has a great group around him – and a great coach who lets him be free so that he can express himself, but also keeps him grounded so that he doesn’t take off.“

Kompany praises maturity: „He is mentally stable“

Kompany himself also showed at the press conference that he is following Karl’s development very closely and consciously guiding it. „He’s still young now. That’s good, he has to enjoy that. What he’s doing with his performances – that can go on for another 30 games, we want to support that,“ explained the Bayern coach.

At the same time, he stressed that Karl is exceptionally mentally stable: „The question is, how do we deal with it if that doesn’t work out? He is mentally stable. His performances are not only good offensively, but also defensively. Tomorrow is another test and we are happy to go along with his development.“

The 17-year-old himself is unimpressed by big names and has already emphasized several times that he is not afraid – no matter who he is playing against. After 14 professional appearances with three goals and two assists as well as 86 Champions League minutes, it is clear that Karl has everything he needs to make the difference again.

And if Harry Kane has his way, he will.
