An AI supercomputer backs Southampton to secure automatic promotion, predicting a second-place finish in the 2026/27 Championship.
According to Daily Echo, Betarades' model, BETSiE, has simulated the season 100,000 times using results from pre-season and the previous campaign.
The algorithm factors in pre-season expectations, fixture difficulty and underlying metrics such as xG for and against. This season it also incorporates team financial data and player values from Transfermarkt to assess squad strength.
West Ham United are forecast to win the title with 88 points, with Saints projected to follow on 82.
The play-offs are predicted to feature Middlesbrough, Wolves, Sheffield United, Burnley, Millwall and Birmingham City.
Charlton Athletic, and newly promoted Bolton Wanderers and Lincoln City, are tipped for relegation.
