Ailton has reclaimed his 2003-2004 Bundesliga top-scorer trophy, 18 years after financial troubles forced him to give it up. The Brazilian’s 28 goals fired Werder Bremen to the title that season.
Kicker reports that the 52-year-old has bought back the award, which the magazine originally presented. He parted with it in 2007 to his then agent, to whom he owed money. The fee has not been disclosed.
“It means a lot to me, I will not part with it again,” he told Bild.
In 2004, with Ailton alongside French duo Johan Micoud and Valérien Ismaël, Werder sealed the league and cup double ahead of Bayern. He scored 102 goals for the club.
He later played in Türkiye, Switzerland and China, before a final stint in German amateur football.
