Everton have completed the signing of Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon for a reported £4.2 million on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season.
The 29-year-old completed his medical before finalising the deadline-day move, returning to the Premier League after three seasons in France.
Maitland-Niles came through Arsenal’s academy and made 132 appearances for the Gunners. He also spent time on loan with West Bromwich Albion, Roma and Southampton before leaving Arsenal permanently.
The versatile former England international joined Lyon and made 118 appearances across three seasons, establishing himself as a reliable option at both right-back and in midfield.
His arrival gives David Moyes greater flexibility and addresses Everton’s need for additional cover at right-back following Séamus Coleman’s departure at the end of last season.
Maitland-Niles now returns to English football with Everton, who have continued to strengthen their squad during a busy summer transfer window.
