Rayan Ait Nouri's Algeria fell to a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations against Nigeria.
The two-times winners bow out of the competition after a good run which saw them win their three group games in Morocco, but struggle to find a way past DR Congo in the last-16 clash ahead of today’s encounter.
The West Africans were firmly in control of the first half in Marrakech and were unlucky to not break the deadlock.
After a goalless first 45, Nigeria made the perfect start to the second as Bruno Onyemaechi played a cross deep into the Algeria box for Victor Osimhen to head across goal and past Luca Zidane.
The Desert Warriors struggled to find a way back into the game and it wasn’t long before the lead was doubled on the 56th minute.
Alexander Iwobi slid the ball through to Osimhen, who squared the ball to Akor Adams who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.
Ait-Nouri’s side rarely threatened Stanley Nwabali in goal and it turned out to be a comfortable victory for the Super Eagles, who dominated the game from start to finish.
Nigeria, runners-up at the 2023 edition, will now face host nation Morocco in the last four in Rabat on Wednesday.
See the conclusion of what promises to be a thrilling final four tie at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 4 February.
