Aitor Calle, 50, has been appointed head coach of Gimnástica Segoviana after leaving Sestao River. According to as.com, he trusts the project led by new sporting director Rubén Andrés and is eager to start work.

The historic club, founded in 1928 and nearing its centenary, are again aiming for promotion to Primera Federación. Calle outlined a side that competes to the limit, plays with intensity and connects with supporters at La Albuera.

He is currently on holiday following his exit from Las Llanas. The Bilbao-born coach cites solid spells at Haro, Portugalete and Numancia as grounding for the next step.

Calle guided Deusto to Tercera División in 2014-15. He then won Group 16 with Haro Deportivo and later secured promotion to the third tier by eliminating Zamora CF in the play-offs.

With Sestao River he finished Group 2 runners-up and reached the Primera Federación play-offs, then in 2022-23 won Group 2 to seal promotion to Primera RFEF. In 2024-25 with Numancia in Segunda RFEF he finished runners-up and went to the final play-off round.

As a right winger in his playing days he turned out for SD Lemona, Amurrio, Ibiza, Sestao River and Portugalete. He hopes the fanbase can enjoy special afternoons and, if things align, celebrate something memorable together at season’s end.
