Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha has turned to Gary Rowett for his Championship know-how to lead a survival push over the final 14 matches.
The club said in a statement that Top stressed survival is the only aim for the remainder of the season and highlighted Rowett’s experience of the division, adding he will be fully supported to find the solutions required.
The appointment comes 24 days after Marti Cifuentes’ exit, with City having slipped into the bottom three at the weekend.
Rowett has been a regular in Championship dugouts across the past 12 years, familiarity the hierarchy views as central to the task ahead.
Top thanked caretaker Andy King for leading the team for four games, with King now returning to his role as first-team coach. Adam Sadler remains on the staff, while set-piece coach Andy Hughes and incoming assistant Callum Davidson will work alongside Rowett.
Rowett will address the media on Thursday afternoon before taking charge for the first time at Stoke on Saturday, one of his former clubs.
