Ajax beat Sparta Rotterdam 4-0 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA to rise from fifth to fourth in the Eredivisie.

In the 19th minute, Joshua Kitolano turned into his own net to give Ajax the lead. Steven Berghuis doubled it with a high finish (32.).

Maarten Paes tipped over a Tobias Lauritsen header before the interval, while Joël Drommel kept Sparta in touch with a string of saves.

After the restart, Davy Klaassen swept in Mika Godts' through ball (73.). Moments later, substitute Kasper Dolberg released Godts to slot the fourth on the break (76.).

Midway through the first half, Youri Regeer was forced off injured, with Jorthy Mokio coming on.

Godenzonen registered 22 attempts with 10 on target and controlled 58% possession. Sparta Rotterdam mustered eight attempts and hit the target once.

Godts is second in Eredivisie scoring on 14 goals.

Sparta Rotterdam drop to eighth. Next, Godenzonen visit Feyenoord. Sparta Rotterdam host Volendam.
