Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf is reporting that Ajax are close to signing Moanco defender Caio Henrique Olivera Silva. The 28-year-old is set to cost Ajax an initial fee of €9m, although this could rise to €9.5m depending on bonuses. Caio Henrique is now in talks with Jordi Cruijff over a contract that could run until 2029 or 2030. Cruijff has already stated that he wants Ajax to be active in the transfer window this summer.

Henrique joined Monaco from Atletico Madrid back in 2020. As a teenager, the Brazilian defender joined the La Liga side in 2016. He then returned to Brazil and spent a number of seasons on loan, making just one appearance for the Spanish side before leaving in 2020 for Monaco. Henrique has played over 200 games for the Ligue 1 side, scoring three goals and providing 39 assists. His best seasons for Monaco were 2021/2022 and 2022/2023. In the former he provided 12 assists in 49 games, with 10 assists in 45 games in the latter. However, Henrique has not been able to perform at that level last season, with just two assists in 34 games. He now looks set to leave France for Ajax where he will likely be an important player as the side look to return to competing for the Eredivisie next season.
