FC Barcelona have been working on several departures in the last few weeks, and one operation that they have reportedly been close to completing for several days now has been that of Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s loan move to Ajax.

The new Ajax coach, Michel, wanted the German goalkeeper in his team after having him under his command for a few weeks at the start of the last season, when they were both at Girona. However, the goalie suffered a serious injury only a few weeks into his season-long loan at the La Liga club, and thus, was unable to remain at Michel’s service for long. Still, the two individuals built up a good rapport.

As things stand, Barcelona and Ajax have already agreed upon almost all the major points for ter Stegen’s loan, including his salary. Now, the Catalans only have to work out the tax implications of this move, after which the deal can be finalized.

However, this last step is taking more time than expected, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Dutch club is getting impatient with the operation and wants its immediate resolution. In fact, the Eredivisie side is clear that if the differences are not resolved soon, the operation can fall apart.

Ajax’s impatience is understandable. They began their preseason on 1st July, and have already played two friendlies, winning one and losing one. Now, they have two more friendlies scheduled before they play their first official game of the season, a UEFA Conference League fixture on 23rd July. They want the German goalkeeper available for this fixture.

Meanwhile, at Barcelona, they are expecting ter Stegen to be among the players that will undergo medical tests ahead of the start of preseason training on Monday. This will be an important step for him, as he is returning from a serious hamstring injury, and his fitness remains to be assessed.

Hopefully, his move to Ajax will be completed soon, as Barcelona need to lose several players who are not in Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season and the Dutch side need him as soon as possible with their season set to start in a few days.
