The Dutch giants were originally hoping to receive an offer of around €55m to €60m for Hato.

There is now reportedly a split at Ajax, with some club officials feeling they may be forced to accept a smaller fee for him.

The Eredivisie outfit are enduring financial issues and cannot risk Chelsea pulling out of the deal.

Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens this summer.

They are now pursuing a deal for Hato, who is comfortable playing as a centre-back and a left-back.

Despite his young age, the defender has already proven his skills in the Dutch league.

He has made 111 appearances in all competitions, tallying four goals and nine assists.

Hato is known for his intelligence on the ball and calmness under pressure. He possesses strong tackling, passing and ball-carrying skills.

Given Ajax’s need to sell and the player’s eagerness to join Chelsea, a move is expected to happen soon.
