Ajax set to make ambitious move for Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto | OneFootball

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax are among the several sides interested in signing Sergi Roberto with the Eredivisie giants preparing to approach the 32-year-old. Roberto is set to leave Barcelona this summer following the expiry of his contract, having spent his entire career at the Catalan club. Ajax have concrete interest in the 11-time Spain international but the player will assess his options in the coming week.

Sergi Roberto has spent his illustrious career playing pretty much everywhere across the pitch. The experienced Spaniard has spent recent years playing as a full-back but predominantly plays as a central midfielder. Having lifted seven LaLiga titles and two Champions League trophies, his experience would certainly help Ajax after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign for the Dutch giants.

Roberto has other unnamed clubs keen on his services, but Ajax are said to be one of the biggest names on that list. A move to the Johan Cruyff Arena would see him link up with new head coach Francesco Farioli, who’s bringing a fresh feel and style of play to the Dutch capital. Sergi Roberto is expected to make a desicion on his future soon.
