According to AjaxDaily, Ajax are set to seek a summer loan for Barcelona’s highly rated left-back Jofre Torrents as new head coach Michel starts a rebuild.
Left-back was a persistent issue last season. Owen Wijndal began in favour but inconsistency saw him lose his place, with right-back Lucas Rosa deployed out of position on the left.
January arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko, signed from Arsenal on a short-term contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, appeared a solution. The Ukrainian suffered a serious knee injury in only his second appearance. He will become a free agent this summer, with Ajax not triggering an extension clause.
Torrents, 19, is highly regarded in Catalonia and signed a new deal in May 2025 that included a reported €400 million release clause. His path is blocked by fellow academy product Alex Balde, and if Balde departs this summer Barcelona are likely to recruit an experienced left-back. Torrents made just four senior appearances in 2025/26 across La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, and an ankle injury sidelined him for three months.
A loan could suit everyone, giving Torrents top-level minutes and offering Ajax short-term cover while they search for a longer-term fix. The clubs enjoy close ties shaped by Johan Cruyff, with Jordi Cruyff now Ajax’s technical director, and a roll call of shared alumni including Ronald Koeman and Frenkie de Jong.
