Reports in the Netherlands say Ajax are closing in on a loan for Sunderland winger Simon Adingra, with an agreement described as within reach before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international has drawn interest this summer, and the proposed move would involve a loan fee of about €3.8million, roughly £3.3million, plus a €16million option, around £13.7million.
Adingra is said to have agreed personal terms with the Amsterdam club, and the clubs are expected to finalise paperwork on Tuesday. Despite wider competition, Ajax now appear to be his likely destination.
He joined Sunderland from Brighton for about £20.5million last summer, then spent the second half of the season on loan at Monaco after struggling to become a consistent starter under Régis Le Bris.
His future has remained uncertain this summer, with Sunderland exploring wide additions before the deadline. The Black Cats have been pursuing several attacking targets, and Jocelin Ta Bi has attracted strong loan interest from Burnley.
A switch to Ajax would offer regular minutes at a club competing at home and in Europe, while Sunderland would retain control of his longer-term future unless the option is triggered. Talks are understood to be advanced, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
